Prime Data Centers Lands 8 Megawatt Project in Sacramento

Data center developer Prime Data Centers has signed an 8 megawatt build-to-suit lease with a publicly traded global enterprise at Prime’s new McClellan Park campus in Sacramento.

Data center developer Prime Data Centers has signed an 8 megawatt build-to-suit lease with a publicly-traded global enterprise at Prime’s new McClellan Park campus in Sacramento.

The tenant is a technology company based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and worked with Prime to complete the design and development of the facility, boosting the planned capacity from the original 6 MWs.

Prime is a privately-held developer based in Sacramento, where it is developing a campus at McClellan Park with room for up to six data center buildings. As a California Qualified Opportunity Zone, the site enables sales tax incentives and sustainable power options from the Sacramento Municipal Utilities District (SMUD).

“The tenant’s decision to deploy this critical capacity in Sacramento speaks volumes to both the economic and geographical advantages of our McClellan Park campus,” says Jeff Barber, EVP Sales and Marketing for Prime Data Centers. “Power and land costs are a fraction of the San Francisco Bay Area, with robust connectivity and a highly-skilled workforce.”

Sacramento is home to a number of data center operators, who tout the region’s seismic profile as an option for disaster recovery in earthquake scenarios. Providers in the Sacramento market include prime, NTT Global Data Centers Americas, QTS Data Centers, EdgeConneX and Sungard Availability Services.

The Sacramento project is one of several California developments for Prime Data Centers, which was founded in 2019 and offers customers flexible ownership and leasing models for their projects, with options including sale-leasebacks or greenfield developments. The company also owns a fully-leased data center in Hayward, Calif. and is developing a 9 megawatt data center in Santa Clara in Silicon Valley.
