As the first year of a new decade kicked off, many leaders across the data center and colocation industry launched their searches for new talent to ramp up their business.

January’s data center job spotlight highlights a variety of leading engineering roles in some of the country’s busiest cities, including New York, Boston, Dallas, Denver and more.

Read on to view the top colo jobs for January, which also includes a Mechanical QA/QC Specialist position in Ashburn, Va., known as Data Center Alley.

Senior Electrical Engineer
Boston
The chosen candidate for this position will be responsible for creating designs and plans, provide and gather specifications, and execute assignments in a multidisciplinary electrical engineering design role for small to medium sized data center facility design projects. This position requires 10 to 15 years of experience and a Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering. The candidate must also be licensed PE.

Lead Mechanical Engineer
New York City
This lead engineering position is with an engineering design and commissioning company that provides design, commissioning consulting and management expertise in data center mission critical facilities space. Critical facility experience is a must, and candidates need to have 10-15 years of experience and a Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering. The chosen candidate will manage projects, create designs and plans, provide and gather specifications, and execute assignments in a multidisciplinary mechanical engineering design role for complex facility design projects. The candidate must also be licensed PE.

Senior Electrical Engineer
Dallas, Texas
This opportunity is with a design, commissioning consulting and management company in the data center/mission critical facilities space with the mindset to provide reliability, energy efficiency, sustainable design and LEED expertise when providing these consulting services. The chosen candidate will create conceptual designs gathered from meetings with the client for field engineer focus, work with management to respond to RFPs, establish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within boundaries of company policies. This position requires 10-15 years of experience and a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.

UPS Field Service Engineer
San Jose, Calif.
This opportunity is with a company that is a leader in third-party installs, and corrective and preventative maintenance of mission critical equipment. Applicants must have an intensive and diversified knowledge of complete UPS start-up, testing and operations. He or she will be responsible for commissioning, maintaining and providing emergency support on power electronics at customers’ sites within their respective regional coverage area. Three to five years of experience in the field and the ability to troubleshoot down to component level on equipment such as UPS, batteries, PDU’s, and STS, is required.

Electrical Commissioning Engineer
Denver, Colo.
This opportunity is with a company that provides commissioning, consulting and management expertise services. The new Commissioning Engineer will manage projects, plans, provide and gather specifications, and execute assignments in a multidisciplinary engineering commissioning role for large facility projects.

Mechanical QA/QC Specialist
Ashburn, Va.
This position is with a leader in critical facilities assessment and commissioning services that provides commissioning, consulting and management expertise. The company is looking for an experienced data center QA/QC specialist to support multiple critical facility data centers. The QA/QC Manager will be responsible for managing the overall quality and service of the operation and maintenance of multiple critical facility infrastructure systems in accordance with company’s policies and procedures. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in creating and implementing multi-facility, standards-based operations and maintenance programs. This position requires 5-10 years of data center facility operations and maintenance experience.

This firm provides a complete life cycle of solutions that are custom-fit to the requirements of their client’s mission-critical facilities. The company builds mission-critical data center facilities as well as labs and clean rooms for companies nationwide. Requirements include relevant experience in the data center construction industry and experience managing data center construction projects with budgets between $25 million to $10o million or more.

Building Automation Specialist – Data Center Controls
Columbus, Ohio
A leading provider of mission-critical equipment and services is looking for a fully competent Controls Technician who will be responsible for commissioning, maintaining and providing emergency support on critical controls systems at customers’ sites within their respective regional coverage area. When not in the field, the technician will be involved in preventive maintenance, emergency response, equipment start-up and/or field modification, and more. This position requires three to five or more years of experience with BMS/BAS controls.
